How to repair a puncture using a patch and plug combination

  1. The first step to repairing a puncture is to find where it is, this should be fairly easy if the puncture is a large hole caused by something sharp, for example by a nail. Some instances like a slow puncture may require tyre baths or leak finders. These tools are designed to make finding the cause of a slow puncture a simple process.
  2. Mark a cross over the effected area using tyre marking chalk.
  3. Using a carbide cutter, or rema, make the puncture into a clean hole.
  4. Buff and clean the area using Liquid Rubber Buffer Cleaner (Buffing Soltution) and buffing accessories such as a Buffing Stone or Grit Flat Wheel. This creates a rough surface to enable the vulcanising solution, or glue, to bond with the rubber of the tyre.
  5. Once these steps have been taken the vulcanising solution, or glue, can be applied to the hole using a spiral cement tool.
  6. All patch and plug combos have a metal pin in the end which enables you to easily guide the plug through the hole and then pull through to create a perfect seal.
  7. Use a stitch roller and inner liner sealant over the patch

The repair is complete. All that is left to do now is cut the plug down to size and mount the tyre back onto the wheel.
